Battle Axe
Many men complain about 'the wife'. She is referred to by comedians as a battle-axe or a person whose sole role in life is to make their man's life unhappy. But it is a fact that married men live longer than single men, and it is not the case that it just feels like longer!
There are certain attributes that men look forward to having in their wife.
- Communication. Many men say that they don't understand women. A man will usually say how he feels and then finish with the matter. Often if their wife tells them about a problem a man will feel that he is being asked to solve it or do something about it. She may just want to air her feelings, feel listened to, but not want anymore than that. Men often say that they wish their wives would deal any with problems and not just talk about them.
- Looks. A man likes his wife to look after herself, stay slim and sexy, but not be so sexy as to be lusted after by other men. Many men like having their wife found attractive by other men, it gives them extra kudos, but then realise that it can be a cause for stress and tension. Looking smart, slim and attractive is often important.
- Sport. Having an interest in football is a plus because many men enjoy sport. Having a wife who knows, understands and enjoys sport means that it can be watched and discussed with enthusiasm. There are no limitations to the amount of times it can be watched. A woman who is interested in sport can then be a mate, a pal, someone who appreciates what they are interested in.
- Home. A wife who is a good housekeeper, cooks nice meals and keeps a good house provides a sense of comfort and well-being to many men. Single men often eat erratically, or have a bad diet. Married men often have a wife who provides balanced, healthy meals and keeps an eye on their weight. There is a good feeling to coming home after a hard day's work, knowing that a tasty meal will be waiting when they get home.
- Mother. Being interested in children and wanting to be a good mother and make a comfortable home is important to many men. This though can conflict with them also wanting someone who earns money and can help with the family finances. Many men like the idea of having their wife and the mother of their children at home and not having to work.
- Sociable. A wife who gets on with their family and friends is important. Being able to mix and meet with family and friends, remember birthdays, be happy to visit and be visited often takes the pressure off them too. Men will often let their wife sort out family occasions so that they can simply turn up and know it's taken care of.
- Finances. Someone who is good with money, hopefully earns good money and can budget is an asset. Money causes many problems in relationships. Having a wife who is a good earner is a big help, even though many men also like to be the provider. It can be an important part of their image to have a wife who dresses well and looks good, but this can conflict with the requirement to be financially careful.
- Appreciation. Many men want to have their wives value what they do and be accepting and appreciative. We all value being understood and having someone at home who loves and accepts us, appreciates what we are trying to do and supports those efforts is important.
There are an interesting array of attributes that men look for in the perfect wife. Some conflict with each other. But affection, respect, honesty and good communications are often the most important areas for harmony and success in a lasting relationship.
