However, there are certain morphs that have come close or have been associated with the ruby color. Here's some more information about these herpatiles.
Stripes
One of the first names that would come up when you talk about the red leopard gecko is the red striped. Despite its name, most of the red stripes have more of orange or red-orange stripes running down their backs. It depends on the breed of the animal but some will have more red than others. Breeders sometimes select the redder animals for breeding purposes, resulting in more red coloration in the offspring. The going price for red stripes can be at around $100 - $300.
Orange and Red
Some of the tangerine morphs can come in a more orange-red coloration. This is also a good place to start when you want to look for red lizards. Both the tangerine and the hypo tangerine lines can have more red color in their skin, leaving you with a bright red-orange. If you are wondering what the hypo tangerine morph, it's a kind of tangerine that has a reduced number of black spots. This gives it an almost solid color, whether all orange or all red-orange. Some have almost no visible black spots. Again this depends on the breeder's preferences.
Red Tailed
There are certain morphs that carry the carrot tail trait. This one makes the lizard's tail appear redder. Some can have almost 90% of their tails in the orange or red color. Although it is up for debate, some consider 15% coloration in the tail to be a minimum for a lizard to be considered a carrot tail. However, if you are interested in breeding your own crimson or ruby lizards, then you might want to check out the possible tail coloration of a carrot tail. A fully orange lizard is quite a find and you might want to think about investing in developing a fully red lizard as well, with both body and tail in a solid red color.
Red Eyed
Some lizards have red eyes as well. Morphs like the Diablo Blanco and the RAPTORS are known and sought after for their ruby eyes. In truth, most of the lizards have red eyes when they are very young but most will lose the red coloration as they grow older. However, morphs like the Diablos and RAPTORS have the unique trait that enables them to keep their eyes red all the way to adulthood. Another example would be the Bell albino. Among the three known breeds of the albino lizards, the Bell gets to keep its red eyes even as it grows older.
Red Future
Although it can take some time to come up with more morphs, selective breeding and a natural adaptability has enabled the lizard morphs to continually grow with every new generation. Who knows what kind of red lizards will come up in the future especially when you consider the fact that many of the current morphs were not the product of calculated breeding but instead of accidents and luck!
