Do you think blacks will ever re-claim country music..?
The Godfather of country music is a black man by the name of Rufus. Not to mention Rock and Roll, Jazz, Dixieland, Bluegrass, etc all have thier orgins in black music..Why did blacks throw away all their great genres of music and get pigeonholed into Rap?
Black musicians were the innovators of a lot of the popular mainstream music of this country like Rock and Jazz. However, blacks didn't "throw" it away. Most of their works were plagiarized by copycat mainstream artists. And many labels refused to manage the black musicians of the 1950s and earlier in the segregation era. White faces with traditionally black sounds and dance moves made a killing.
In the U.S. there is always this issue of music being seen as the domain of one race. R&B my favorite genre is viewed as "black music" however one of my favorite artists, the ultra talented Teena Marie who is white also had some problems making it in the mostly black R&B in her early career.
