On a beautiful February Saturday, yes I said February, my husband, daughter and I found ourselves on O'Dell Brewing Company's patio sipping some very fresh suds. Maybe it was the warm 60 degree temperatures, the smells of spring in the air, or the amazing sunshine, but the setting was worth the 20 minute wait in line to get the beer.
I am a fan of the Brewing Company's Easy Street Wheat. Sure, when I order it out at other establishments, I ask for an orange, but I wouldn't dare ask for the same at the brewery. My husband had the red, his first time drinking their red ale. He didn't seem to be as big of a fan compared to other brew house's reds.
My two gripes about our outing there were these: When you enter into the building, be prepared for a long line. We were out of the first door, waiting 20 minutes for 5 workers to figure out how to take orders and pour the beers. The system seemed good, and maybe it isn't as big of a problem on any other day of the week. Just know if you are thinking of going on a Saturday, plan ahead for a long wait. The second part was we were interested in taking a brewery tour. They only offer 3-a-day, and unless you are one of the lucky few who knew how their system worked, you weren't going to get a tour that day. They don't take reservations in advance, and they open up the tour count 30 minutes prior to a tour. Given that you have to stand in the line to not only order a second beer, but to sign up for a tour was annoying.
If O'Dell Brewing could add a few more staff on Saturday's to take additional patio orders and to help move the line faster through the doors (as we were leaving, the line was out of the building), they could afford to hire the extra hands. Would we go back, yes, although next time I think we will both be having the Easy Street Wheat, and trying another day of the week when it isn't quite so busy.
