The Simmons Mattress Company has become a well known name in bedding products from the time when Zalmon G. Simmons first opened his doors in eighteen seventy. It's been nearly one hundred and forty years since Simmons quit making cheese boxes in his Wisconsin factory and switched over to making mattresses instead. The Simmons Corporation is now one of the oldest mattress companies in the United States and may even be one of the oldest businesses around.
Many believe Simmons is one of the earliest mattress businesses to mass-produce their products. Until that time, mattresses were primarily for rich people because they were made by hand and were quite expensive. In eighteen eighty-nine however, Simmons changed their production methods so that they could sell their products at lower prices. The cost started out being around twelve dollars and ended up being ninety-five cents for a mattress, which made them available to the middle class for the first time in history.
The basis for modern day mattresses also appeared around this time, which is the spiral coil innerspring unit.
One of Simmons first big hits was the Wall-A-Bed in nineteen twelve, an early version of the well known Murphy Bed which they later manufactured for the Murphy company. Due to their success the company grew quickly and had built factories throughout the country by nineteen nineteen.
The pocketed coil spring made its way onto the scene in nineteen twenty-five and proved to be one of the most crucial advances in the company's development. This is because each separate coil moves independently, rather than as one large piece, allowing for a lot less motion transferring across the surface. This will cause fewer disruptions for partners when one gets in or out of bed during the night, allowing the other person to sleep.
Since these springs are not connected to each other, they will form to the sleeper's natural curves, creating long lasting comfort while reducing any unwanted pressure. This type of mattress does have a drawback though. It might not be as durable as a mattress that has a regular innerspring unit with all the coils connected. For this reason some companies still choose not to use pocketed coils.
The pocketed coil springs were introduced in the very first Simmons Beautyrest Mattress that year. It quickly became their best seller and is the company's signature product to this day. The Beautyrest line has always used Simmons individually encased springs in one form or another.
Simmons Mattress Company has continued to grow at a large rate through the years. A testament to this fact is that they've expanded operations in other countries and are one of the top mattress producers around the globe. Many people consider them among the "big three" along with Sealy and Serta. In the U.S. alone they have eighteen factories and offer a large variety of mattresses, including almost every type imaginable.
In addition to the regular Simmons Beautyrest their lineup currently includes: Natural Care which is Simmons latex mattress, Comforpedic - their memory foam offering, Beautyrest Black which is their high end line of luxury mattresses, and Simmons Kids. Not to mention the various accessories like pillows, sheets, and mattress pads. If you're in the market for a new bed they've got all the bases covered and chances are good they've got what you're looking for.
To sum things up, The Simmons Mattress Company has earned a highly respectable reputation over the years for selling quality products at affordable costs. In their one hundred and forty years of existence as a company, they've proven to be reliable and steady in a very competitive business environment.
