David Banner, birth name Lavell Crump, was born April 11, 1972 in Jackson, Mississippi. After high school, Banner graduated from Baton Rouge, Louisiana's Southern University with a Business Bachelor's Degree. He started to study for his Master's in Education from the University of Maryland, but eventually left school to move forward with his dream of having a music career.
"David Banner," Crump's stage name is the name of the title character in "The Incredible Hulk" television series. For awhile, Banner performed with rapper Kamikaze in the group Crooked Lettaz. Banner released, in 2000, his debut solo album, entitled "Them Firewater Boyz, Vol. 1" under Big Face Records. After his first single, titled "Like a Pimp" hit the radio, it became an instant sensation and Banner signed with SRC Records. In 2003, his first studio album debuted - "Mississippi: The Album." Banner then released, in 2005, his next album titled, "Certified." Banner's next album, "The Greatest Story Ever Told" came out in 2008.
Aside from an eventful music career, Banner has also created a name for himself with a promising film career. He played the role of Tehronne in the 2006 movie "Black Snake Moan." Banner has also lent a hand on "That Crook'd Sipp," a cartoon on Adult Swim which premiered in 2007. Also in 2007, Banner was in the movie "This Christmas" as Mo, as well as a leader of a gang, named Jay in "Stomp the Yard 2: Homecoming." Banner played the role of Bosch the 2010 movie, "The Experiment," alongside Adrien Brody and Forest Whitaker.
Banner has also been noted for his activism in assisting the cleanup after Hurricane Katrina. He was presented with the Visionary Award in 2006, by the National Black Caucus.
