Painting the baby's nursery is no different than any other painting project. Sure, you can wag your inspiration piece down to the paint store, choose a coordinating color, slap it on the walls and be done with it. But for a few more bucks and with a little time, you can add some painted details that will make a huge difference. There are many benefits that can come from a simple solid color wall. But, if you have the itch to dress things up a bit here are some ways that you can get the job done that are cheap and even fun.
ADD SOME TRIM
Carpenters would have you think that molding installation is rocket science. But if you can manage a miter box and a small handsaw, you might find it relatively simple to tack up a chair rail. A chair rail will provide a break in the wall space and give you an opportunity to bring another color into the room.
NURSERY WALL BORDERS
If carpentry is not your bag, there are other ways to get the same effect of a chair rail without using a hammer and nails. Pre-pasted wallpaper border covered in cute baby designs is cheap, easy to install and there are hundreds of patterns to pick from. For more visibility and to draw the eye upward towards the baby's ceiling you can hang your border right below the crown molding or at the angle where the wall meets the ceiling.

If you choose to stencil your nursery decorations, you will follow the same rules and instructions for installing rolls of pre-pasted wallpaper border. By using the stenciling method to apply your border, you will have more control over color and the layout of the design. With baby stencils you will have complete creative control over the nursery painting project.
STRIPE IT UP!
Stripes never seem to go out of style, do they? Stripes of one color or style are always in vogue and right now they are very popular in the baby's nursery. Lots of baby crib bedding collections have fabrics that would look fabulous in combination with subtle painted stripes on the walls. If the idea of striping the entire nursery is too much to digest, consider using the technique on an accent wall to highlight the head of baby's crib.
BE AN AMATEUR MICHELANGELO

Painting very large pictures on the nursery walls can be intimidating, but
rank amateurs can paint the basic details of landscapes and then use stickers to fill in the details. Paint the background of the scenery you want on the walls and then you can paste flowers, trees, birds or whatever you need to quickly fill in the gaps.
So what if you make a few mistakes along the way? That's the good thing about paint, if you don't like what you see or if you change the baby's room theme you can always cover it up and do it over.
