God bless you, Dear Mothers of the world! Whether you have given birth or have assumed the role of mother in some other way, know that you are loved and honored for everything you have done and continue to do in our lives by nurturing, loving and caring for your children and all of God's children.
Sometimes it may be difficult to believe that you are so exalted. Your children may take you for granted, society values your achievements in the workforce more than what you do at home, and even your husband may neglect to thank you. But God never forgets! He knows that you love unconditionally, encourage against all odds, believe in your children when no one else does. The Lord sees that you support us, listen to us, pray for us.
You shape us, correct us, and lead us in the right paths. In fact, you are the closest thing there is to Jesus' pure love on earth! No one else sacrifices as much, or as willingly, as a Mother does for her child. She will go to the ends of the earth, fight the powers of this world, and willingly die for her child. She is a living example of Jesus' sacrificial love every day.
Think of Mary, the Mother of God. She knew her son would sacrifice Himself for the world, yet she did not try to stop Him. Instead, she sat at the foot of the cross when He was crucified, mourning His suffering, yet never leaving Him. Mothers will stand by their children to the end, even when they know they cannot change the ending. Why? Because the love of a Mother, like the love of God, is infinite in its depth and passion. In fact, Jesus loved His earthly mother so much that He told His disciples to look out for her after He was gone:
"Near the cross of Jesus stood His mother, his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw His mother there, and the disciple whom He loved standing nearby, he said to His mother, "Dear woman, here is your son," and to the disciple, "Her is your mother."
- John 19:25-27
In most families, Mothers are the "keeper of the gates," they give us our religious instruction and guide us on the path to God. Mothers teach us to say our bedtime prayers when we are little children. They take us to church each Sunday and show us by their example how to lead Christian lives. Perhaps Mothers do this because they are uniquely qualified to understand the nature of God's sacrificial love. They live that kind of love each and every day - sacrificing their own lives for their children in countless ways.
God is all-powerful and perfect in His wisdom - and He determined that life should be created out of women. Without Mothers, life could not go on. He knew before the beginning of time that no one was better suited to the role than women, with their tender hearts and strong souls. Think of the powerful force your mother has been in your own life, and thank the Lord for mothers!
For those who are Mothers, we give our thanks knowing there is no expiration date on your jobs. Words can't express how much we love and honor you. May God continue to bless you as you have blessed us!
