What is LUCK?!
What are the odds of a person finding ONE "four-leaf clover" in a life time? Have you ever tried to look for them? Did you find it right away, or did you not find any? Have you noticed that people who claim that they have found a true four-leaf clover can usually find them again? If you have never found one, chances are, you will have a hard time finding one - if ever. Why is that? Is it just luck?
Why are they so hard to find? The four-leaf mutation is quite rare, occurring once in about 10,000 specimens. So, what is the origin of the notion that four-leaf clovers are lucky? According to Irish legend, each leaf, or rather leaflet, represents something: hope, faith, love, and the fourth luck. It presumably has some association with the Irish "Shamrock", which Saint Patrick used as a metaphor for the Holy Trinity of the Catholic faith. The Shamrock, having three leaflets forming a single leaf by definition - God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
It is believed that when Adam and Eve were told to leave The Garden of Eden, Eve brought a four leaf clover from it as a keepsake. She wanted to remember the happiness they enjoyed in The Garden of Eden. That is why if one finds a lucky clover it is supposed to bring happiness into the person's life. One important aspect of the lucky clover myth is that for it to bring luck you must find it serendipitously. In the Middle Ages if you found a four-leaf clover you would have been given the gift of being able to see fairies and plant spirits...
