Rap duo Young Gunz is perhaps best known for their Hip Hop hit Can't Stop, Won't Stop; a song with a catchy rhyme and beat that reached number 14 on the Billboard charts in 2003. A mixtape was released shortly after the rap gained notoriety. The duo consists of rapper Young Chris and Neef Buck who have been friends since childhood. Chris and Neef as introduced by Jay-Z in his track Takeover from "The Blueprint" (2001). They grew up in Philadelphia, PA and received their rise to stardom through the movie State Property which starred the duo. Their soundtrack performances caught the eyes of various artists who offered them appearances on their albums.
These artists and groups include: Jay-Z, Freeway, State Property, and Memphis Bleek. Many mixtapes include these various artists. After Can't Stop, Won't Stop achieved status and much airtime they began working on their debut album "Tough Luv" through Roc-A-Fella Records. The album sold over 123,000 copies its first week rocketing it to number three in the Billboard charts. "Tough Luv" included a remix of Can't Stop, Won't Stop which featured Chingy, as well as, the singles Friday Night and No Better Love. Young Gunz mixtapes feature these songs.
In 2005 Young Gunz released their second album, "Brothers from Another", which debuted at number 15 on the Billboard 200 and featured such greats as 112 Slim, Kanye West, Swizz Beats, and John Legend. The mixtape sales profited from these featured artists. Sales of the second album were less than expected although the lead single was featured on television and in magazines, and was promoted by Jay-Z. The West Coast rapper The Game (also featured in a mixtape), had a disagreement with Memphis Bleek which soon spread to a dislike of all artists under the Roc-A-Fella Records label. Young Gunz joined the feud and created a freestyle rap to insult The Game. The Game and comedian Katt Williams freestyled insults of their own after Young Gunz described Williams movie character as a fake ass pimp.In 2006 Young Chris decided to go solo with little success.
