Guinea pigs are originally grass-eaters, but they can eat a variety of fruits and vegetables. The most common are apples, seedless grapes, celery, parsley, carrots, potatoes, bell pepper, broccoli, sweet potatoes, corn, and lettuce. But ever since people started to domesticate these little creatures, they were fed with hay pellets that are fortified with essential vitamins and minerals, such as vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin D, calcium, magnesium, iron, and zinc. They also drink plenty of water, especially during hot weather.
However, these creatures can also get sick, and some the causes of their disease-conditions are bacteria and viruses that thrive in their dwelling place or on their dirty coat. If they become restless, easily irritated by a simple noise or touch stimulus, then they are more likely ill. Others will have an aversion over the foods that are being served to them, while some will pass out watery and bloody stools. If these things happen, your pet should be brought to a veterinarian so that proper treatment intervention will be administered.
