Door won't open - I have to have it open for repair - How do I get it open?
1990 Lexus 250 - Drivers door won't open. Looks like door electronic lock/latch has failed and to repair I have to open door, but can not get door open. (All other doors will unlock or lock from drivers door.) How does one get door open when the lock/latch (both inside and outside) failed with door shut?
To open the door the shops remove the inside door panel (or at least pull it back enough to gain access). This is easy to do with the door open, but not with it shut (several attachment screws are covered).
The manual releases don't work, so a locksmith is worthless - because that is what they manipulate with rods to open the door.
The mechanism operates like the child lock was set, the only thing wrong is the front (drivers) door does not have a child lock.
If the shops can fix it, which they do (but with much difficulty), I should be able to.
What I was hoping is someone would know how they get the inside panel off with the door shut!
Call a locksmith. They have special tools to get doors open in that type of situation.
