Are the 3 piano concertos that Liszt wrote considered to be amongst the most difficult piano concertos in the repertoire? Would they be amongst the ten most difficult concertos ever written?
When I asked number of concert pianists hear at the conservatory, if they were harder then Tchaikovsky's concertos and Rachmaninoff's piano concertos, some said yes other said no. Many said Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff concertos are much longer and thus require a great deal of stamina, but are not as difficult from a technical point of view as Liszt.

No, they are not the most difficult ever written. There may be certain passages specific to Liszt's writing style that some pianists may find more difficult than others, but overall they are not insane, like Prokofiev 2 or Rach 3 or Barber.
As far as being on the top 10 list, I'm not sure. Maybe. It again depends on the pianist. Liszt uses a lot of octaves, rapid scales in both hands, fillagree passagework, and double 3rds. He has his own disctinct style of writing for the piano--which stems from his own unique way of playing the piano. This will not fit everyone's hands equally.
