Why did Deep Purple sound so bad in the studio?
When you listen to Made in Japan you can hear a great heavy metal band. But when you listen to the same tracks on Machine Head, especially Highway Star, there's almost no energy in comparison. Even the organ sounds bad for some reason and the music is overall silly instead of heavy. Did anyone notice this or know why this is?
Even more, check out the live version of Burn, then the studio. Hughes doesn't even do the scream in the studio and the music is again very light instead of heavy with not much energy.
not sure but I was just listening to that album what a coincidence I do agree their production wasn't as good as zeppelin or sabbath, but they still are great albums, its sort of typical production for that time period.
