PROS:
- Low Price - Any product that carries the Delonghi name is expected to be high quality. So a Delonghi model at such a low price point is a rare find.
- Dual Filter - The Delonghi has a patented dual filter which not only uses regular pre-ground espresso like any other espresso maker, but also uses E.S.E. (Easy Serve Espresso) pods which means no tamping and no clean up.
- 15 Bar Pump System - No Delonghi EC155 review would be complete without a discussion of the quality of the espresso. This Delonghi is not an ordinary steam espresso maker. It has a 15 bar self-priming pump system which pushes the hot water through the ground espresso at roughly 15 times normal sea level air pressure. This creates an authentic, coffee house quality espresso with a healthy quarter inch head - known as the crema.
- Steam Wand for Cappuccino - All or most espresso makers have some sort of steaming wand that you can use to froth milk for cappuccino. However, the steam wand for this model Delonghi actually works - and is reported to continue working throughout the life of the appliance. This is not always true for inexpensive espresso makers.
CONS:
- Steaming Wand Too Low - Many Delonghi EC155 owners have reported that the steam wand for cappuccino is only several inches from the counter, necessitating a small frothing pitcher.
- Output Nozzle Too Low - Similar complaint to the steam wand. Some owners report that since the output nozzle is only a few inches from the plate, they can't comfortably use large mugs for their espresso. Espresso or cappuccino cups are preferred.
- No Cup Warmer - Some espresso purists maintain that espresso should properly be served in a heated cup. There's no cup warmer on this model Delonghi so if you want heated cups you'll have to use a microwave.
VERDICT:
On balance, the verdict for this Delonghi EC155 review is positive.
One additional positive point is that, since the Delonghi EC155 is so simple and straightforward, it tends to last and last. If you just want a basic rugged machine to provide you with excellent espresso or cappuccino at home, then the Delonghi EC155 is for you.
