Switzerland is the ultimate authority in watch making. They are doing it for centuries and consider themselves to be the pioneers of the trade. However, some other countries are catching up with this trade. First, Japan started producing watches of average quality and cheaper prices. The Japanese watches took over the popularity of Swiss watches, as they were far more affordable though not very catchy in looks. Now Italians have decided to give Swiss a real tough time.
Italians are making watches for centuries but their watches had not gained as much attention as the Swiss ones in the past. They were copying the Swiss styles instead of coming up with their own individual styles and techniques. They have started doing so now and are thus experiencing a surge in popularity of Italian style watches. Wrist Watches
These are the most popular type of Italian watches. The most common wristwatches with an Italian design include a studded interface that is laced with crystals or pearls. The main dial is mostly of round shape with two hands; one for minutes and the other for hours. Some newer models also include the seconds' hand, but most people prefer the older style. The basic design of these watches is quite simple and does not include any excessive and ostentatious display. The focus is on simplicity yet elegance.
Some wrist watches also come in innovative designs that might include some aspects of Italian royal past. There are intricate paintings inside the dial that represent gothic, catholic or Venetian styles and paintings. The main dial might also have a gold plating, pearls, and diamonds. These dials, of course, fetch very high prices and are mostly preferred by the rich and wealthy.
Women wrist watches have different styles from men watches; naturally, they are more delicate and studded with diamonds and pearls. Some also have rubies, topaz and other precious stones that are used intelligently to create beautiful designs. The watch making process generally involves a massive handwork, as machines cannot make such complex designs.
Table/pocket watches
Unlike the wristwatches, table/pocket watches can either be placed on your bedside table, or can be kept in your pocket. Some enthusiasts also put them in a locket and wear them. These watches generally consist of a bigger dial that has some great pieces of art inscribed in them, including paintings or intricate metal features. There are also some simpler versions of table//pocket watches with a basic design; they, of course, are quite affordable and preferred by most people.
The variety in Italian watches is simply endless. They cater to every income group but offer a unique style in each design. Table/pocket watches are not as popular as wristwatches but have a clientele of their own.
