Being a motivational speaker is a tough job, it is really important or a need for you to get the attention of your audience especially when you're talking about the same thing for several hours, where their attention span gradually decreases as each minute passes. Now how will you be able to remedy this?
This article will show the importance of entertaining the audience not only in order to have a great speech, but in order for the audience to fully understand the message that you want to pass on to them. But what does it really need to entertain a large crowd? Is it really necessary to be funny? How can you entertain them?
To tell you the truth, there are infinite ways to entertain your audience, but you should remember that all those ways may not be suitable for your use, so you need to discover what techniques and methods can be compatible with your speaking style or on how you do your program. You should also keep in mind that you entertaining techniques should be compatible with your target audience. To give basic techniques, here are some ways or examples you can utilize.
Don't try to be somebody else
As I've mentioned in your pursuits to entertain your audience you need to stick with a style that would be compatible with you. So, don't try to be somebody else, try to check out ways to entertain them simply using the qualities and talents that you already have. You should keep in mind that when you try to be something you're not, it would actually show in front of your crowd, therefore ending you with unsuccessful attempts. This would just show you as a boring, corny, or dull. So select the best style that would work for you. Try to do some experiments with a small crowd with people you know, try to ask their suggestions and comments in you attempts to be entertaining.
Use the power of stories to awaken your audience emotions
As human beings, we easily sympathize to other people's experiences especially if we can relate to the story. Use this to your advantage; try to use similar life experiences or testimonials in order to awaken your audience's emotions. I assure this will be very effective, and in no time you will have the full attention of your audience. Also your audience will participate eagerly in sharing their own experiences and participate in your activities.
Learn to laugh at yourself
Commit honest mistakes and laugh at it! When you commit mistakes, don't try to hide, let it show and laugh at how silly it is. This would really have a great impact on how the audiences see you. Primarily, this greatly affects the mood, making the whole crowd feel at ease with your presence, they will feel relaxed and comfortable with you. The mistakes that you commit show that you're still human that you're the same level with them. This would also make it easier for you to get their trust and believe you as a motivational speaker.
These are just a few examples on different ways to entertain your audience and grab their attention. Utilize techniques that would be most compatible in your speaking style. As a motivational speaker always try to maintain an approachable and light aura, this is also very important in trying to entertain your audience. So to sum this up, try doing experiments, select the best that works, and never stop trying to exceed your audience expectations. Be unpredictable and most of all have fun!
