What do you think constitutes as the perfect office space? I have worked in several different office set ups and I must admit that some were particularly better than others. Some of the offices I worked in were out of people's homes, some in a large office complex, and some in a small office complex. Everyone has different thoughts and expectations when it comes to being in the "perfect office space."
I don't think any of us want to be tucked away in the back of the room with no windows to look out with this loud continuous humming going on, but then again, maybe some would like that.
So for me the ideal office space to be in is one that has a nice location. When I say this I mean a couple different things. First, I mean that I don't feel like I may be harmed when walking to my car. Secondly, if I want to get some food or gas, I don't want to have to drive several miles out of the way.
There's nothing like being out in the boondocks and having to drive what seems like a day just to get a bag of chips. So for me, I feel convenience is definitely a factor. And for example, an office space in Tucson has to go about its environment in a completely different way than one in New Orleans.
Another major contributing factor, and it's one I mentioned before, are their windows? I feel windows are essential because it lets you know that even if you are stuck indoors, the world awaits you when you step outside. It's nice to gaze out the window every now and then and take a look at nature and the cars passing by. I feel lighting is also another factor as I am all about the natural light. If I don't have to turn on an office light, even better! There's just something about that nice warm sun shining through the windows all afternoon.
Admittedly, it is sometimes nice working out of people's homes. It can usually create a more laid back atmosphere but it's also a very personal thing as well. It's sometimes hard to be in a space that you are both living and doing work out of. The dog is barking in the background, the kid is crying, or the neighbor is mowing his lawn for the third time this week. It can create a bit of an unbalance and it's definitely not suitable for everyone.
