Ten Commandments
If you want to see the result of choosing to disobey the Ten Commandments, go see the kids locked up at Juvenile Hall, in San Diego. There are 500 to 600 kids, aged ten to eighteen, incarcerated at any one time. A small part of the two million kids who are arrested each year in America and the 100,000 kids who are locked up.
These young convicts did not commit their crimes because they were obeying the Ten Commandments. On the contrary, you will find kids who have broken one, two or possibly all of them.
How do I know? I spoke to them through my volunteer program "Be a Winner in Life".
I saw young people who are murderers, gang leaders, drug pushers and all the rest.
What is the result of these kids breaking the Ten Commandments? They have messed up their lives and lost their freedom.
Why have they broken the Ten Commandments? They are following the older generations lead! There are more then two million adults who are presently locked up. (Just the ones who got caught).
Some of us think we can do anything bad we want but, in the end, we all pay a price. There are always consequences. None of us is safe when God's commandments are broken, even if we are not guilty of personally breaking them ourselves.
How have you been affected by someone else breaking the commandments?
My family has. My daughter's purse was stolen. Another daughter had her pickup stolen. My brother had his house broken into and his wife's wedding rings stolen. My family's losses are mild compared to what other people have suffered because someone chose to break a commandment.
Now evil people are trying to get rid of the Ten Commandments! What do you suppose life will be like without them? I know what it's like in Juvenile Hall. I wonder what it will be like, on our streets, when the commandments are taken completely out of our lives? It's already horrible.
Why are we so stupid in thinking we don't need to be obedient? When are we going to wake up?
I know the kids, locked up at Juvenile Hall aren't happy that they broke the commandments. I wonder how we can think we will be happy when the commandments are taken away from us. We know that having them removed from the courthouse in Alabama was just the beginning. First, the commandments, and then the Bible! What next? Will be all be forced to live the kind of the lawless society I see at Juvenile Hall, where there are no principals, or goodness.
Are these kids happy because they broke God's commandments? No! Some of them wish they could have a better life. Why did they choose to break the commandments and break the laws of the land? Often they lived with family members who find it no problem breaking the commandments. Many have no idea what the Ten Commandments are. Others may know something about them but were never taught the good consequences we receive by living them, so missed out on being able to enjoy a good life.
Exodus 20:1-17
1. Thou shalt love the Lord thy God
2. Thou shalt have not other Gods before me
3. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord they God in vain
4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy
5. Honor thy father and thy mother
6. Thou shalt not kill
7. Thou shalt not commit adultery
8. Thou shalt not steal
9. Thou shalt not bear false witness
10. Thou shalt not covet
These are principals to live by which will bring you happiness and keep you out of a lot of trouble! Let's learn to live them ourselves and then teach them to our children.
