I need advice for bench pressing this amount of weight for a police test. Anyone have any idea how to reach this? I have maxed out around 70 pounds. I have been doing pushups and weights, but i don't have much upperbody strength naturally. I have been training for awhile, just can't get over my plateau. Any ideas? Time is not on my side either.
I just have to push it up one time. It's an ancient machine, I can't find the machine at any gym. It's the kind with four different sides and you lay down and push the handles up once. It seems so easy... yet upper body strength is not my strong point. the other parts of the test are a cake walk.
i'm maxing out at 70 on the free weights, but the actual test is on the flinstone machine that i talked about above. i have read that those machines are much easier. anyone know anything about that?
85 Pounds on a bench press...
Here's the deal, if you are maxing out at 70 pounds, you can't just go and bench 85 pounds. It won't work that way. And the bigger problem is, if you aren't ready for it, you will probably pull your muscles. And that is no fun, trust me!
The best thing you can do, is strength train. Take a Protein supplement, if you aren't already. And lift at 70-80% of your maximum weight. For example, you would bench about 50 pounds for 4-8 reps. Do this routine 2-3 times a week. After a couple weeks, you should be able to increase your bench press. Again, don't overdo it, and allow plenty of rest. Ease into increasing your bench. Say in 2 weeks, add 5-10 pounds to your bench and try again. Keep this up until you reach your 85 pounds.
